One ranking policeman who rushed to the help of a partner that got attacked by a knifeman was granted the Royal Recognition for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a knife to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist after a road collision in the area in July 2023.

Brown attacked with blade both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.

"Officer stabbed," the constable could be heard saying over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video made public by the force revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade outstretched.

He ran into the officer who lost balance and dropped to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor although being continually attacked with the blade.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a open target, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "I need something on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple deep cuts to his neck and more wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster received knife wounds.

The department stated Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his partner's blood loss prior to medical personnel came.

The latest honor follows subsequent to the three officers were granted internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area Police Federation in April 2024.

They were also awarded a Regional Bravery Award in July 2024.

"The responses of each policeman ultimately protected themselves and resulted in no bystanders experienced any harm."

Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, per the department.
